Mountain design

Bag Number 3485

  • The Mountain design tells the story of women who live in the mountains. It speaks of their daily challenges and struggles to sustain their livelihoods – their gardens, their home, everything around them is climbing mountains each and every day. - It is usually woven by someone who lives or used to live in the mountains, for the Goroka weavers they weave this design too pay homage to the mountains that hold them, the mountainous areas in the Eastern Highlands. They have happy memories in the mountains, growing up as children, climbing trees and playing games with their siblings. Now the mountains are hard work, some of the women with injuries and illness are no longer able to go wokabout.
