This natural fibre or 'one' fibre bilum is from Telefomin, a remote village on the border of West Papua.
It has been handmade using traditional knowledge and skills that are passed down through generations. Woven from natural fibres foraged locally this bag is exceptionally durable. Each bilum is one of a kind and can take up to 2 months to make. A raffia tassel and pom handmade by women in Madagascar adorns the bag.
From the sale of this bag the weaver is able to provide support to their family through access to education, food and health care.
Due to the nature of the materials natural colour variation occurs.
