Highlands Natural Fibre Bilum Bag
This bilum is from the Highlands, a chain of mountain ranges that run from the east to the west of PNG.
It has been handmade using traditional knowledge and skills that are passed down through generations. Made using natural fibres from the Tulip tree hand rolled on the leg to make bush twine and then woven. Each bilum is one of a kind and made to last. The design is inspired by the weavers life experience, commonly nature, and their surrounds. It has been embellished with a raffia tassel and pom made by women in Madagascar.
From the sale of this bag the weaver is able to provide support to her family and access to health care for her and her children.
Natural fibre bilum and the raffia tassels are water resistant not water proof, please take care with light coloured clothing.
